How this works
What each term means
Room layout
Front
Which wall your whiteboard (or the front of the room) is on. It sets two things: which end shows the “FRONT OF ROOM” bar on screen, and which row seat numbering starts from — seat 1 is always in the row closest to the front.
Desks
Each square is one desk — one seat, one student. Two desks that land next to each other in a row automatically become “desk partners” for the rules below; a lone desk at the end of a row has no partner.
Partners
Designated pairs
Two specific students you've chosen who should always be seated together, no matter what else is going on.
Rules
Priority zone tags
Tags (like IEP or Front) marking students who should sit near the front. Anyone with one of these tags gets first claim on the front seats.
Zone size
How many of the front-most seats count as the “priority zone.” Defaults to 12.
Never seat together
Tags where two students sharing the same one should never be desk partners — e.g., two students both tagged “Distracting.”
Pair these tags as desk partners
The generator tries to maximize the number of desk partnerships that pair one of each tag — e.g., an Honors student sharing a table with a CP student. This means sitting right next to each other in the same row, not just nearby.
Daily use
Generate
Builds a new chart following your rules. Click again anytime for a different valid arrangement. If a rule couldn't be fully honored, you'll see an amber note explaining what was relaxed and why.
Attendance
Marks a student absent for today. It doesn't move their seat. Only today's mark-up is kept — no day-by-day history is stored, so use Export if you need a record before it's gone.
Export
Downloads or prints today's attendance (Present/Absent per student) — the only way to keep a copy, since the app itself doesn't retain past days.
Print / Projector
Student-facing views: seat number and first name only — no tags, no absences, no teacher controls.
